Being a Sun

What your world needs most from you is for you to be a sun.

These are the opening words of my book being published later this year, Becoming a Sun: Emotional and Spiritual Intelligence for a Happy, Fulfilling Life. I wrote them five years ago on a plane. I was thinking about friends in Australia, and what they were going through at the time.

Do you ever have highly-charged meditative experiences while flying? I do sometimes and I was on that day. I went into a state of deep prayer as I was thinking about my friend’s challenges. And from there, I began to think about my own life, and the life of so many people I know. The words of what became the first chapter of my book poured out of me onto my laptop with a flood of tears.

Maybe it was because I’m a double Aquarian astrologically. Maybe it was because I was flying six miles above the earth. But I began to think about things in global proportions. My meditations led me to think about people I knew around the world and what is most important for us all. And then I began to think about all people who are awakening spiritually around the globe.

What your world needs most from you is for you to be a sun.

As I write these words, I am flying home from British Columbia where I was visiting the Edenvale Retreat and Conference Centre. I had a remarkable time, assisting the people there as they came together to plan for growth. As is so often true in the groups of people I encounter, there was plenty of talent. There were wise spiritual teachers and leaders, strong administrators and an entrepreneurial spirit. All that was needed was for them to come together and commit themselves together to the new cycle, and commit to each other at a heart level. All that was needed was for each of us to be a sun. And we were.

The world needs your warmth… The world needs your light… The world needs your gravity…

The sun is such a great symbol for the qualities of personal experience that allow us to be successful in our life. These qualities truly do lead to happiness and fulfillment.

For me personally, as I prepared myself to assist them in their process, it was clear that these were exactly the qualities needed from me. I believe there is a place where generosity resides in us all. It is a place where the generation of warmth, light and gravity is easy and natural. And the more you go there, the easier it is to do so.

Here is what I thought about as I facilitated some of our sessions.

Warmth? Would people relate to me, trust me and feel motivated to receive what I had to offer if they couldn’t feel my warmth?

Light? If I couldn’t shed some light on the issues they were facing, and on the way forward, would I be of much use to them?

Gravity? Didn’t we need to share the gravity of their mission? Wouldn’t that be what would inspire others to be attracted to Edenvale and want to participate? And how could I contribute to that if I didn’t have the courage to bring the gravity that is natural to me—my own strength, my faith and my stability?

I invite you to think of the cycle of your life…the people around you, creative projects of whatever kind, and the challenges you are facing. Perhaps, simply by reading these words, you will connect more deeply with that place of generosity in yourself, where your sun nature resides. From that place, you can reinvigorate the flow of your warmth and the shining of your light. From that place, you bring the gravity that allows what should orbit around you to do so.

What your world needs most from you is for you to be a sun.

  1. Great sharing, the though of becoming a Sun for other to be inspire is a wonderful metaphor, an image people can relate too. You are a Sun in my life offering the unique qualities that make you a Divine inspiration to others and particularly to me. One with You, Michel

  2. Thank you as always David, for your beautiful writing and sharing. I wanted to mention, I became excited to hear another say they have highly meditative experiences while flying. I have had many!! 🙂 Much Love, Elania

  3. A Huge yes to becoming inspired on plane journeys. I do seem to become more alight and inspired by the solitude you feel in that strange restricted and enclosed space. Looking out of the window is almost like looking into the soul of the All and the expansion you feel with the whole planet below you allows a huge well of inspiration to flood in.

Being a Sun, with all of its power, vibrancy, birthing to life, generosity of love, truth, change, divine warmth, joy and openness is definitely a pathway I consistently attempt to follow – for without that creative life force source where would we be.

Honouring both light and shade too as they have their parts to interplay – hoping that during the great depths of the darkness we face we can see the startling burning brightness to fill our heart with the same Sun’s overpowering intensity. Allowing us to share graciously and openly with everyone that dare come close enough to our sun beams and experience our Love Light –

It is a delight to share that Brightness burning from the inside of self out – looking forward to Reading more of your insights David ?

  4. David, thanks for being that sun for so many and reminding us of how it all starts with the source of light, warmth, gravity….all our crazy emotions are pure energy.
Keep bringing your unique qualities to this needy little blue marble.

  5. Thank you from all at Edenvale, David. Your Warmth, Light and Gravity helped us create a beautiful synergy and passion for what is possible together at Edenvale. Your gift of Spirit and Leadership is a constant inspiration. Much Love and gratitude!
    Jeannie
