What your world needs most from you is for you to be a sun.

These are the opening words of my book being published later this year, Becoming a Sun: Emotional and Spiritual Intelligence for a Happy, Fulfilling Life. I wrote them five years ago on a plane. I was thinking about friends in Australia, and what they were going through at the time.

Do you ever have highly-charged meditative experiences while flying? I do sometimes and I was on that day. I went into a state of deep prayer as I was thinking about my friend’s challenges. And from there, I began to think about my own life, and the life of so many people I know. The words of what became the first chapter of my book poured out of me onto my laptop with a flood of tears.

Maybe it was because I’m a double Aquarian astrologically. Maybe it was because I was flying six miles above the earth. But I began to think about things in global proportions. My meditations led me to think about people I knew around the world and what is most important for us all. And then I began to think about all people who are awakening spiritually around the globe.

What your world needs most from you is for you to be a sun.

As I write these words, I am flying home from British Columbia where I was visiting the Edenvale Retreat and Conference Centre. I had a remarkable time, assisting the people there as they came together to plan for growth. As is so often true in the groups of people I encounter, there was plenty of talent. There were wise spiritual teachers and leaders, strong administrators and an entrepreneurial spirit. All that was needed was for them to come together and commit themselves together to the new cycle, and commit to each other at a heart level. All that was needed was for each of us to be a sun. And we were.

The world needs your warmth… The world needs your light… The world needs your gravity…

The sun is such a great symbol for the qualities of personal experience that allow us to be successful in our life. These qualities truly do lead to happiness and fulfillment.

For me personally, as I prepared myself to assist them in their process, it was clear that these were exactly the qualities needed from me. I believe there is a place where generosity resides in us all. It is a place where the generation of warmth, light and gravity is easy and natural. And the more you go there, the easier it is to do so.

Here is what I thought about as I facilitated some of our sessions.

Warmth? Would people relate to me, trust me and feel motivated to receive what I had to offer if they couldn’t feel my warmth?

Light? If I couldn’t shed some light on the issues they were facing, and on the way forward, would I be of much use to them?

Gravity? Didn’t we need to share the gravity of their mission? Wouldn’t that be what would inspire others to be attracted to Edenvale and want to participate? And how could I contribute to that if I didn’t have the courage to bring the gravity that is natural to me—my own strength, my faith and my stability?

I invite you to think of the cycle of your life…the people around you, creative projects of whatever kind, and the challenges you are facing. Perhaps, simply by reading these words, you will connect more deeply with that place of generosity in yourself, where your sun nature resides. From that place, you can reinvigorate the flow of your warmth and the shining of your light. From that place, you bring the gravity that allows what should orbit around you to do so.

What your world needs most from you is for you to be a sun.
