Fire in the Belly

Do you want more fire in your belly?

It fascinates me how common phrases sometimes point to profound truths. This one makes us feel viscerally the interaction between two cosmic forces, fire and earth.

How does this dynamic interaction occur in the human experience? What facilitates it? Is it just something you are born with? Or is there something we do that invites it?

Here’s what I’ve learned. It is the human heart that welcomes cosmic fire into our experience. You can’t try to make yourself motivated or enthusiastic if you are not and expect anything to change. Your emotional body has to soften. The heart center, located at the top of your breastbone, has to relax and open. You have to feel deeply about something precious to you, perhaps even sacred. And then you have to desire to have that reality that you love live in the world.

When you realize that your actions determine whether something you love lives or dies, the fire in your belly ignites. It burns. When it does, feel it. Welcome it. Let it fuel your life.

What does it mean to become a sun?

Every human being is already a sun on the inside—a being of intense love and light. The difference is that some people have the vision and courage to become a sun on the outside. This difference is our human destiny.
