This Week’s Quotation:

Can you promise to keep loving yourself no matter what the outcome of your actions? Can you walk a path of self-compassion and self-love, whatever the outcome of what you do? The way you act in your world will change if that is so. You will be free to be wise and strong in what you do and in the risks you take.

Embrace the blessing that comes to you in your life, no matter what the outcome of your efforts. Your strength to act will grow.

Practice Self-Love

Author, Becoming a Sun

Good medicine, right? Self-compassion and self-love?

Being self-critical only goes so far. Sure, you want to notice when you are veering off your path, holding back, or not taking advantage of an opportunity. But without some self-compassion and self-love, how far is all that criticism going to go.

I remember vividly that day when I really got this. It was during an intense experience. At the time, friends I had counted on were letting me down. That didn’t feel good.

I didn’t know what to do. Seemingly, my whole support system was gone. That’s when I got it.

Here’s what I told myself: Dave, if you don’t love and support yourself, how can you ever expect anyone else to?

So that’s what I did. The intensity continued for a bit. But I got through it. And then something unexpectedly wonderful opened up that led me forward on my path.

As I consider my life today, this is a lesson I want to remember. It is relevant for me now. How about you? Maybe it’s time to practice some self-love.

What does it mean to become a sun?

Every human being is already a sun on the inside—a being of intense love and light. The difference is that some people have the vision and courage to become a sun on the outside. This difference is our human destiny.

  1. It is an unsatisfying and ineffective way to live if what others do and say determines your joy and creativity. Self-love is not indulgent, it is vital. Any service offered without it is unhealthy. The world changes when what we do is infused with the love of self

  2. How incredibly important it is when times are difficult to remember that one is a beloved child of the universe. Loving ourselves is not selfishness. It is recognising that life can be hard sometimes, but we are precious and deserve love, especially from ourselves. If we cant love ourselves, we cannot truly love others.

  3. I too remember a time of joyous breakthrough into self acceptance, realization and freedom from a belief system that was holding back natural self expression.
