This Week’s Quotation:

When you move out of the swirl of thought and feeling into an experience of the Being who you are, you are then in position to witness your thoughts and feelings like you never have before. You see the embodiment of yourself through your own thoughts, feelings, and actions. You are bringing the peace of your presence to your conscious awareness. And even if your thoughts and feelings are swirling, you know what is happening, and you have the courage to embrace that experience, not ignoring or running away from it. And through the courage to embrace all of your human experience, all of who you are shows up in the world. Your courage brings the gravity of who you are into the world.

The Courage to Embrace Your Human Experience

I still remember the first time  I really got it — I’ve got to show up for myself, no matter what anyone else does. As you might imagine, it was a hard period in my life. There were people around me who I had counted on for friendship and support. And they weren’t there!

I suppose it is normal to question yourself in a time like that. What did I do wrong? Why did they go? And on it went.

Finally, I sat myself down and gave myself a good talking to. I said, Dave, you might have made a mistake or you might have done it perfectly. You might be a rascal or you might be a saint. But either, way, if you are not there for yourself, you are sunk. And if you don’t love yourself, how could you ever expect anyone else to?

I learned through that time that how I might judge myself to be isn’t always that relevant. Sometimes, I just have to be there for my own soul. For my own heart and my own mind. When I show up like that, I do the things that truly need to be done. I think creative thoughts. And the flow of love has a chance to move through my heart.

I learned that loving yourself is different than self-approval. It is the courage to embrace your own human experience. Sometimes, that’s what makes all the difference.

What does it mean to become a sun?

Every human being is already a sun on the inside—a being of intense love and light. The difference is that some people have the vision and courage to become a sun on the outside. This difference is our human destiny.
