This Week’s Quotation:

Think of what goes wrong in the human experience. We lose faith in our leaders when we believe that they lack generosity; when we believe they are not leading out of an attitude of pure service, but that they are more interested in taking than giving. Think of the serious issues that come up among you and other people in your life. At the heart of those issues, is there not a question of generosity? Or think of every person you have ever mentored or encouraged or assisted in any way in his or her life path. At the root of the challenges they faced, wasn’t there a belief in the lack of their own internal resource? Perhaps a tendency to focus on their needs and what they weren’t getting from the world?

The Engine of Your Creativity

David Karchere
Author, Becoming a Sun

There is an engine of creativity within us all. At a physical level, the engine is powered by our metabolism, which converts food and the molecules of the body into energy. But we are conscious beings. So, at other levels, the mechanisms of consciousness play a vital part in kickstarting the engine of our creativity. At other levels, our creative power is stoked by what we think, what we feel, and where we turn spiritually.

The word generosity might remind us of human magnanimity—a display of noble charity. But the word generosity originates from the same Latin root as words like generator and generation. The root meaning is bringing forth. I am using the word generosity here to name the capacity to bring forth more, to generate more in any area of our lives.

Our conscious attention can be the rudder of our own personal ship. If we pay attention to all the ways our needs are not being met, where is the creative generation? Turning to what inspires us and consciously opening to it, starts the engines of creativity. The match is lit. Our mental and emotional fuel catches fire. Soon, our human spirit is moving. The power to invent, build, and transform is at work through us in the world.

There is generation. There is generosity.

So, how do you deliberately open your thoughts to what inspires you? How are you going to kickstart the engine of your creativity?

What does it mean to become a sun?

Every human being is already a sun on the inside—a being of intense love and light. The difference is that some people have the vision and courage to become a sun on the outside. This difference is our human destiny.

  1. Many thanks, David. Regarding your final questions, I find that if I really open myself up, whether in the moment or right before I go to sleep, or first thing in the morning, there is usually fresh inspiration coming through. I don’t have to scratch and scratch my head – but Spirit is ready to come through if I get my worry wagon out of the way … I appreciate your inspiration in this moment and your inviting these questions. Love, Tom C.

  2. Actually the moment I rise up in the morning I begin to generate the substance of love and creation. It just “kick-starts” automatically. There is not a moment in my day when this generation ceases, nor does the radiance it releases into the world of my responsibility ever stop.

  3. Ho opono pono and Affirmative Prayer. Finding my Forgiveness. Opening my heart to the pain instead of hiding from it.
